Jürgen Leippert
Jürgen Leippert was born in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1944. He studied under Alfred Lehmann for a year before beginning at the Berlin University of the Arts in 1964. Since 1971 he has worked as a freelance artist, based in Stuttgart.
Throughout his career Jürgen has worked abroad from time to time. In 1989 and 1990, he made study trips to Rio de Janeiro. Since 1996, he’s had various work stays and exhibitions in Amsterdam, Haarlem, Domburg und Noordwijk. In 2010 and 2011, he spent longer periods in New York. Jürgen’s paintings have been exhibited throughout Germany, as well as in Amsterdam and New York.
Jürgen paints both en plein air and in the studio, appreciating how the technical and compositional demands of each setting provides a foil for the other. He felt he belonged in Lamu from the very first moment he arrived there for the 2011 Lamu Painters Festival. To return, for him, is like coming home. For this reason, he finds it easy to paint on the island, and looks forward to another productive spell there.
